Got my Multi drive in the mail today while at work and couldn't wait to get home as it had to be delivered to an alternative address before coming to me via a family member.
Having spent the last few hours poking and prodding, sorting my EDC, re-sorting to get it to a point that I can fit what I want for now and see how I get on. Then sorting out my home workspace for the large case plus getting my desk space sorted. Here's my first impressions so far.
The Good.
The finish on most of the parts and adaptors is absolutely flawless, the stainless steel finish in particular is just beautiful. The leather work is fantastic and the perfect size for both cases with lots of room for all the bits, attachments, files and lead, plus extra storage for other useful add-ons and just smells perfect. The metal cases are hefty and solid, with a nice strong magnetic click,
I'm looking forward to carrying the small case now that I have adjusted my EDC to include it and it made my EDC more efficient to boot which is always a big plus when you add something.
The Bad
One of my grease pencils broke in shipping but I'm fine with that, it fits in the stubster so no real worries there that's really the only truely "bad" thing I've come across so far.
The Ugly
Nothing is perfect, and I've found even the best quality tools need a little adjustment here and there and this is no different. The collets and caps interior needed sanding/polishing, I spent about 2 hours with 1000 and 1500 grit sand paper cleaning up the 3 collets and the 3 screw caps, taking sharp edges and a few burs off of the collets, and cleaning up the transition inside the cap. Everything runs super smooth now and grips hard enough that I cant pull the bits out. I'm 100% ok with this as I do it to every single tool I've ever bought with mechanical parts. 😅
Overall I'm pretty happy with everything.
A side note I can't help but wonder if the HTB1 brass may have actually been the better choice of collet material for something this size, if you ever release a few of those in the store I may pick one up to see.
The MetMo team should be really happy with this product! You did a fantastic job over the last few months with great communication. I Look forward to what your team does in the future. And hopefully the shop opens up soon, I ligit might end up getting another driver for myself as I have one set away as a gift to a family member and I want another one :p
This is some excellent feedback, cheers! Your set-up is looking great as well!
I'm glad nothing was terrible, and thanks for letting me know about the burrs. We do have a lot of checks in place but with the thousands of Multi Drives that went out I think the team were probably seeing them in their sleep haha! I will let the machine shop know that there's room for improvement on this.
We never got the brass collets machined because of the uproar! All insights are useful though, so this is good to know.
Thanks so much for your kind words. The team really have smashed it out the park with this campaign, and I'm so lucky to have them on side. You'll be pleased to know we've done a sneaky soft launch of the Multi Drive on our store, so you can expand your collection imminently!
Cheers again,
Peg
I'd be very interested in a clip or something to hold the Stubster to the leather case in the same fashion as your flashlight is attached.
